SCOMET License for Export: List of Items, Declaration & Requirements

Introduction India has developed as a global export centre, but there are certain products which cannot be exported freely. As per India’s Foreign Trade Policy, the export of SCOMET Items is either prohibited or permitted under a license. SCOMET lists down a few such commodities that has both civilian and military use to export these commodities, obtaining a SCOMET license is mandatory. What is a SCOMET License ? SCOMET stands for Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies . It is required for goods which have dual-use and are delicate in nature such as electronics, certain chemical and military related technology. These are dual-use items, they have potential civilian uses but may also be misused for defence, nuclear, or security purposes.
